Il portale ALETEIA fu fondato da Jesús Colina (già fondatore dell'agenzia Zenit)
con l'approvazione Pontificio Consiglio delle Comunicazioni Sociali e della Nuova Evangelizzazione. Ora il portale è promosso dalla Fondazione per l'Evangelizzazione attraverso i Media (FEM), con gestione industriale ed editoriale affidata al gruppo editoriale franco-belga Media-Participations.
Ha uffici editoriali a Parigi, New York, Guadalajara, Varsavia e Lubiana.
